Manager: John Kenny
Format: 12 man team, 18 hole 4-ball aggregate
Result: DUGS won 5 holes up.
Match Captain Kenny was determined that last year's disaster would be avenged. Team selection was not straightforward. Various late night promises guaranteeing inclusion had to be honoured or quietly forgotten.
Incredibly, 3 team stalwarts, Spain, Flavin and McNamara turned down selection deciding instead to go to the Wexford Opera. They informed the Captain that they would be available for next year's match. We will see.
Some tension was detected among the PGC members as the Captain of the R&A, Gavin Caldwell, had quite correctly chosen to represent DUGS ahead of PGC, whose Captain, John Conway led their side.
A thick morning mist cleared at 9.00 allowing the match to start on time.
Despite loosing the top match, DUGS powered to a 5 hole victory with strong performances from big guns Counihan, Murnane and Canning.
A pleasant lunch of bacon and cabbage was enjoyed by all in the Pickeman Room.
Brendan Cashell had been searching the archives and gave a very interesting account of Lionel Munn's life.
