The LEDGER

2 October 2015
Royal Co Down Golf Club

Format: 12 man team, 36 holes, foursomes/singles, aggregate

Result: UCDGS 427 pts, QUBGS 421 pts, DUGS 399 pts.

Match Report:

Friday morning saw three nonplussed teams on the 1st tee at RCDGC which, most uncharacteristically, was bathed in sunshine.

On being told that play was delayed due to fog resulting in the 2nd green not being visible from the fairway the assembled golfers, knowing the 2nd is a blind hole, were further nonplussed. But in due course golf commenced and a delightful morning was enjoyed by most participants.

RCD was presented in exemplary condition and the enjoyment of the links was enhanced by the fine weather which continued throughout the day.

DUGS were in a strong position at lunch only to, yet again, fade in the afternoon. UCD emerged as worthy winners, for the third year in a row, closely pursued by QUGS – who used impact players off the bench to good effect - with DUGS languishing in ‘third’ (last) place.

The post match dinner was noteworthy in that UCDGS actually had their act together to the extent that they did have to hand prepared Minutes for 2014. These were delivered, in fine style, by Jackie Reynolds.

Tributes were paid to Barry Hutch and Eoin O’Brien who’d played in many a Ledger but had sadly died in the past year.

Thereafter some good jokes were told along with quite a few very old jokes and many woeful jokes.
