DUGS Match Report

DUGS V Dooks Natterjacks Society

Date Sat 6th of September 2025

Match Manager Gina O’Connor

We were delighted to go back to Dooks Golf Club after our  successful match there in 2023,and our cancelled re match in Connemara last September 2024.Unfortunately the weather went against us and it was a very challenging wet and blustery afternoon so a decision was made to cut the match to 13 hole match as the weather conditions further  deteriorated as we played into the afternoon.

Match Result DUGS  won with 3  matches  and 1 halved match

Match 1) Suzie Fanagan O’Brien (0.7) & Karen O’Kelly (19.4) V Maeliosa Kelliher( 8.3 )&Jackie  (37.4)

Karen and Suzie had a most enjoyable match while the weather was unkind ,Karen played  impeccable golf and we won our match comprehensively  although we still played to the 13th hole. We had a super evening after our match enjoyed by all.

Match 2)Cecilia Spain (18.5) &Joyce Mc Redmond (34.4) V Lucy Donegan (13.3) & Anna Walsh( 33.0)

DUGS were 2 up after the 3rd hole ,however after losing the 6th and 7th the match went back to all square. Cecilia’s ball hit the flag on the par 3 ,8th hole which was a turning point in the match wining 9 th also brought the match to 2 up going down the back 9.Dooks/Natterjacks won the 11th however despite a valiant comeback from them halving the 12th and 13th ,DUGS won the match 1 up. Despite the poor conditions a very enjoyable and competitive match was played.

Match 3) Judith Lynch (8.9 )&Daire Coffey (18.8)  V Niamh Mc Murrough( 23.9 )&Claire Lyons (37.6)

Niamh and Claire got off to a hot start and went 3 up after 5 holes courtesy of 3 net birdies through 5 holes. DUGS managed to pull back to 1 down by the turn with a shared half on the 13 resulting in a 2 hole loss. Lovely company we were pleased to get out of the wet conditions and enjoyed great hospitality at Dooks Golf club.

Match 4)Juliet Overend (13.8) &Frances Coulter (15.2 ) V Emer O’Donohue(13.9) & Jenny Flynn  (23.5)

Emer had a great start winning the first hole, however DUGS fought back and they went three up by the 9th hole. The Natterjacks got some great putts and the DUGS were just one up going up the 13th hole, DUGS were very relieved to halve the hole and win the match  1Up.Despite the appalling   weather conditions especially the last 3 holes ,  it was a very  enjoyable round played in a very competitive but friendly atmosphere.

Match 5) Gina O’Connor (17.2) &Edel O’Reilly (19.9) V Susan Lynch (10.6) & Nicky Simmons Gooding( 30.8)

DUGS got of to a flying start winning the first 2 holes ,to go 2 up however Natterjacks won  the 3rd  but DUGS won the 4th hole to go back to 2 up.  The Natterjacks made a come back winning  the 5th hole  and the  6th,7 th and 8 holes and 9th holes were halved. The conditions deteriorated so much on the 10th hole and DUGS lost the hole to a fine birdie by Susan to bring the match to all square .It was decided to finish our match on this hole with a halved match being a fair result .It was a match played with great spirit and fun despite the miserable weather ,and overall the whole match day was a great success with Dooks Golf Club catering coming up trumps with a very welcome soup and sandwiches for lunch before the match and a  very high standard of food produced for our dinner.

It was with great pleasure that I accepted the Lynch Trophy back for DUGS for the second year having won it also in 2023
