Match Report
The 2026 Cleek and Fanagan Trophy vs UCDGS was played in Rosslare Golf Club on Saturday 9th May. The Club’s irrigation system replacement investment has paid off handsomely with superb course conditions and with the weather gods looking kindly on the Sunny South East, everything was in place for a superb series of matches on the Links.
Unfortunately for the DUGS men, that is where the superlatives end, as despite all matches being played with great camaraderie, we were comprehensively beaten in all but one match. Under the current fourball better ball handicap rules, we are simply giving away too many shots to be competitive (61 over the five matches) and this I believe is something that needs to be considered further.
Our thanks goes to Rosslare Golf Club for continuing to be so accommodating for this event, the excellent presentation of the course and their new caterers LaVista for a sumptuous dinner afterwards.
This fixture was first hosted in Rosslare GC in 2000 and we are firmly established as one of their more favoured societies, given we have supported the Club so well over the years. They have already requested what date we require for next year which is always positive!
